After one month the new scale finally arrived. Will it be the doomsday?

Last time I weighed myself was August 24th. It’s so long ago, I had to look at the calendar to remember the exact date. I don’t even remember what my weight was, but I know it was somewhere around 365 or 362.

I stop weighing myself not for lack of motivation, but because my scale broke. It broke in an odd way because it still works for my girlfriend who weighs around 125 lbs, but for me it gives a reading of 0.0 lbs.

So we decided to look around for a new scale and it wasn’t easy to find one here in Montreal that will register more then 330 lbs. So I decided to look on the net and I found one at a reasonable price that calculates body fat percentage and weight up to 440 lbs. I though it would be perfect.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. It turned into a complete nightmare. To resume the facts: I ordered the scale on August 25th and finally received one in good working order yesterday, September 22nd. The first one (sent by express post at my cost) arrived on August 26th. It was broken and I had to send it back at my own expense, can you believe that? The scale company said that I should complain to UPS for delivering me the broken scale, it was ridiculous. I ended up paying $88 in shipping for a $69 scale.

So after almost four weeks the scale finally arrived. I didn’t want to step on the scale last night because I usually weigh myself in the morning and frankly I wasn’t very excited because I haven’t been doing much exercise and I’ve been straying from my diet. I’ve been eating some sweets here and there. I haven’t been cheating a lot, but without the scale I had no proof that I was still losing weight….

When I woke up today I hesitated a little bit but for some reason I mustered up the courage to end my misery and confront the scale. One thing I knew was that the longer I avoided it , the worse the situation would become. I was just praying that I wouldn’t be more than 370 lbs.

When I stepped on the scale, a lot of things passed through my head and I started to remember all the bad choices I’ve made over the past few weeks and I was pretty scared of what I would see. When I looked down and saw 354.8 I was SHOCKED. My girlfriend even asked me to step on the scale again and I got the same result. I looked through the window and for some reason the sun felt to me a little bit shinier today. )

Week 1 of the War on Sugar

Week 1 of the War on Sugar

I did continue the War on Sugar, but was not so strong on it once Saturday rolled around. Sure, I had my dessert that day (one slice of my favorite homemade cake from my mom) and then some (Rockfish’s bread pudding with brandy sauce). Then Sunday I had some Mountain Dew while at my monthly Geek Sunday with the guys (and three slices of chicken pizza, 4 bone-out chicken wings, and chicken alfredo pasta). Sunday was really bad. Monday I stayed home not feeling well and having to deal with a gout attack (gee, I wonder why). I didn’t eat much, but I still had a couple of sweets. See the trend? Even after weigh-in today, we went to a new chinese buffet and I hit the dessert bar too.

I have got to stop at Saturday being the only day. I’m mad at myself again. Time to bring on my “A” game. I want another loss this coming week. I want another 5 pound star on my Weight-Watchers bookmark. I want to get even closer to my goal of “Turkey Day 60 Gone”. I still have a two-week vacation between now and then… so I’ve got to fight hard before the trip. Afterwards, I can recover and make this goal a reality for once.

Still loving my Wii Fit too! I hope they provide updates to allow for setting up a Fitness program (i.e., define a specific set of exercises to complete X minutes or perform a certain set of exercises in a preset order).

Starting weight: 319.0 lb
Previous weight: 265.6 lb
Current weight: 266.0 lb
Current loss/gain: +0.4 lb

Distance to WW Goal: 16.0 lb

Cross Published on Rejected Reality

Before you guys go all ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’ at the numbers below, I gotta tell you that I have had a pretty stressful week. Basically, LOTS of $hit (Charles & Rick understand).

I tracked most of my days, that is before my Palm was lost/stolen, so its back to the paper trackers for a while. I made it to the gym 3 times, as well as 3 football games and 1 volleyball game. Plus I did some shopping for school; $500 worth of textbooks… for ONE term, plus another $500 for the Dell laptop I ordered today. And then, there is the OTHER stuff… The upshot, I didn’t eat much on some days. One of the days I tracked had me using 12 of my 37 points.

I start classes on Monday at 9am - 9pm and Tuesday 8am - Noon; 14 credits including practicum. I am hoping to get in some time at the University weight room as well as keeping the convenience food in check. Stay tuned for the Week 1 assessment.

Until then… Take a look at the Football Guy Ticker, he’s looking pretty awesome. He never used to be that far along the field.

How much of it is because of fitness?

In my introduction post here I had a comment left by Usman which made a valid point even though I think it was meant for another post.

I think it’s not all about fitness. People want to LOOK good. In my personal view, a vast majority worksout because they want to get look fit…not be fit.”

This left me pondering about how much of this am I doing for fitness or just for the look of being fit. It also brought me back to plenty of memories. One of them was in UPS where I’ve seen guys that look like they spend four hours a day in a gym quit from having to do work lifting 40-70 pound boxes, All while I was tossing 75-200 pounds into cages and belts from periods of time anywhere between 4-16 hours a day. What a waste of muscle when you can’t even apply them to a real life experience.

So now what do I have to say to this question? If I were asking this to the me of 2006 then I would say hell yeah it’s for fitness. I was living a lifestyle where my body needed to handle punishment then dish out some as well. It was all about making my body as effective as possible.

Back in that time, If I were a car I’d for sure be somewhere in the Beat up 70’s Muscle Car category. It may not be a shiny car and there are still times where it’s engine gives in but for the most part It’s was always hitting over 150, All day and all night. Now though, I find myself feeling like an SUV that people take like the old beat-up Tahoe’s, Shine them up real nice with a new paint job and put some big ol’ rims on them. That’s all nice on the outside but there’s really nothing under the hood once the paint job drys.

A major problem here is that all this time that I’ve been talking about what I’ve done, I’m not thinking about what I’m going to do. If I don’t do anything with this body I end up with then all that’s gonna happen is that this body much like an old car that isn’t maintained is gonna break down from now and then. Then one day it ends up in the driveway once again as a side project, Which is pretty much what happens to a lot of people who gain the weight back.

This morning I jumped on the scale and I was relieved to see it read 278lbs.  That gives me a 2 week total of 6lbs and a 15lb total since I started 4 weeks ago.  I got to admit I was a little nervous just before I stepped on the scale. What if I did all this work and it was for nothing? I now realize I had nothing to worry about because I did everything I was supposed to do.  I ate good healthy food and worked out every day I was scheduled to.  The one thing I am proud of myself for is that I went to a restaraunt and still ate like I was a person trying to lose weight.  Feeling good about the number I seen on the scale this morning is much more satisfying then having a pizza and beer.  I still went out this Sunday and watched the football game, I just had a grilled chicken sandwich and iced tea. This can be hard sometimes because if your hometown team was the Detroit Lions you’d be tempted to keep the beers coming too!

Week 6 Weigh In

Well, this week was rough. The cough is still lingering. I’m almost over this thing, and with the new elliptical placed in the living room, facing the TV, I’ll probably be exercising, instead of just sitting there. My mom finally decided to join me on my diet, so that should help, having some support around. I’ll need it to get over what I saw on the scale this week…

Starting Weight: 217.8
Goal Weight: 200
Last Week Weight: 217.2
Current Weight: 219.2
Weekly Weight Change: +2 lbs.
Total Weight Change: +1.4 lbs.

Yuck. Time to get rid of those pizza rolls, and get some salad makings. Well, I’m off to do my exercise for today! Hundredpushups.com (W2D1) and an hour on the elliptical is my goal.
